Sloths, Leatherbacks and Volcanoes
May 11-19, 2026

Join an unforgettable adventure with our annual May quest towitness the awe-inspiring nesting ritual of Leatherback Sea Turtles inCosta Rica. These gentle prehistoric giants reach up to 9 feet and2,000 pounds. After a night in the Bougainvillea Hotel in San Jose, ourjourney starts by crossing the breathtaking Braulio Carrillo NationalPark on our way to the south Caribbean coast, where for two days, westay at the Almonds and Corals Boutique Hotel. After exploring theCahuita National Park, a location known for its abundant slothpopulations, we then navigate through rainforest canals to LirioLodge, adjacent to the Pacuare Reserve, where forested trails and boat rides along the Pacuare River reveal the magic of this tropical ecosystem. Evenings are spent on the beach, where local guides help us spot nesting Leatherback Sea Turtles. Our adventure continues to the slopes of Arenal Volcano at the Arenal Observatory Lodge, where we explore its private nature preserve, tour a cocoa plantation, and relax in natural hot springs.

Costa Rica-Coast to Coast:
Tortuguero, South Pacific Coast, Talamanca Mountains
July 17-25, 2026

Our adventure begins with a night at the beautiful Hotel Bougainvillea in San José, set among lush gardens. Next, we travel to Tortuguero, a remote and magical destination accessible only by boat or plane. We stay two nights at the Manatus Lodge in tropical surroundings. By day, we explore the rich biodiversity of Tortuguero National Park by boat, and by night, we seek to witness the unforgettable sight of Green Sea Turtles nesting on the beach. From Tortuguero, we take a private charter flight to Palmar Sur on the south Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Our driver takes us to Crystal Ballena, a boutique hotel with a private rainforest preserve. There, we take a wildlife tour of the Sierpe River and a boat cruise of coastal waters in search of calving humpback whales. Our trip ends with two days at the Talamanca Mountain Range, the highest in Costa Rica. We conclude our journey with two peaceful nights at the cozy Savegre Lodge, exploring cloud forests and hoping to spot the magnificent Resplendent Quetzal, one of the region’s most iconic birds.

Where the Wild Things Are; Costa Rica's Most Remote Rainforest
August 18-26, 2026

Join us for nine unforgettable days exploring the remarkable diversity of Costa Rica. After an overnight stay in San José, we travel to the remote waterways of Tortuguero National Park, a vast network of canals and rainforest accessible only by boat or small aircraft. Here, we explore by boat, observing monkeys, birds, and reptiles, and at night we venture to the beach in hopes of witnessing nesting Green Sea Turtle—an extraordinary natural spectacle. From Tortuguero, we take a private charter flight to the wild South Pacific coast and spend two days exploring Corcovado National Park, widely regarded as one of the most biologically intense places on Earth. Hiking through some of the most pristine rainforest remaining in Central America, we search for scarlet macaws, tapirs, and other iconic wildlife. Offshore, we may also encounter migrating Humpback Whale. Our journey concludes in the Talamanca Mountains, Costa Rica’s highest range, where we spend three days exploring cool, misty cloud forests. Here, we hope to observe the dazzling Resplendent Quetzal and many other highland specialties.
Note: Since this trip already has a group of 6 women that like to travel together, this trip is only open to women participants.

Join us in the search for calving Humpback Whales in the South Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Explore the mangrove forest on the Sierpe River safari river cruise, encountering monkeys, sloths, macaws, and a plethora of exotic birds along the way. Immerse yourself in Costa Rica’s rich history with visits to archaeological sites, a traditional coffee plantation, and an iconic town featuring its historic church, a testament to the country’s colonial heritage. This carefully curated trip combines wildlife, nature, and culture, offering unique experiences in some of the country’s most memorable locations.

Hatchlings, Sloths and Volcanoes
January 31- February 9, 2027

This trip visits Ostional Beach on the Nicoya Peninsula at a time when we expect to witness the massive emergence of sea turtle hatchlings that occurs after an arribada nesting event. During an arribada, thousands of sea turtle nests are laid at Ostional, and approximately two months later, hundreds of thousands of hatchlings emerge from those nests. While on the coast, we will also search for calving humpback whales, which visit Costa Rica’s Pacific coast during this time of year. The trip continues to Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, a unique region where we will explore the tropical dry forest. Our journey ends at the iconic Arenal Volcano, where we will spend three days exploring the tropical rainforest and experiencing its extraordinary biodiversity.

Costa Rica Coast to Coast
March 20- 28, 2027

Join this unforgettable trip exploring Costa Rica’s most fascinating and diverse habitats! Humpback whales and mystical cloud forests are some of this adventure's highlights. We begin with a night in San José before heading to the remote and wildlife-rich region of Tortuguero. There, we’ll spend two days exploring Tortuguero National Park, exploring the rainforest by boat excursions through the park’s lush canals by day. Next, we board a private charter flight to the South Pacific coast, where we spend three nights at the scenic Cristal Ballena Hotel. From this stunning coastal setting, we explore the surrounding waters in search of calving humpback whales and enjoy a tour of the spectacular Sierpe River, known for its rich wildlife, including crocodiles, monkeys, and tropical birds. Our journey concludes in the breathtaking Talamanca Mountain Range. We spend our final two days surrounded by pristine cloud forest, exploring trails and keeping an eye out for the elusive and magnificent Resplendent Quetzal.

Costa Rica Diverse Habitats
April 20- 28, 2027

Our journey begins with a relaxing first night at the charming Hotel Bougainvillea, surrounded by beautifully landscaped tropical gardens that offer a gentle introduction to Costa Rica’s biodiversity. The following morning, we travel north to the wetlands of Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, near the Nicaraguan border. This region is one of the country’s premier birding destinations, known for its rich concentration of aquatic and forest species. We spend two nights at the unique Tocu Tent Camp, immersing ourselves in nature while exploring the refuge by boat and on foot, searching for herons, kingfishers, monkeys, and caimans. From Caño Negro, we continue to the foothills of the iconic Arenal Volcano, where we stay three nights at the Arenal Observatory Lodge. Here, we explore trails through primary and secondary rainforest, enjoying incredible views of the volcano and abundant wildlife. We then take a local charter flight back to San José and continue by ground to the Talamanca Mountains. Our final destination is Savegre Lodge, where we explore pristine cloud forest habitat and search for the spectacular Resplendent Quetzal.

Leatherbacks, Sloths and Volcanoes

Every May, we repeat one of our favorite trips to Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast and the Arenal Volcano area. This special itinerary includes visits to two stunning destinations along the Caribbean coast, followed by time at the iconic Arenal Volcano. Because we know we’ll encounter plenty of wildlife—especially sloths—we always designate an official Sloth Counter for the trip. In May 2025, we set a record with an incredible 32 sloths spotted! Our journey begins at Almonds and Corals Lodge on the southern Caribbean coast, where we explore lush rainforest habitat in search of sloths, toucans, monkeys, and much more. From there, we travel by boat to Lirio Lodge, a remote and beautiful property on the central Caribbean coast accessible only by water. Lirio Lodge gives us access to the Pacuare Reserve, where we hope to witness nesting Leatherback Sea Turtles—an unforgettable natural spectacle. After Lirio, we continue to the Arenal Observatory Lodge. Over three days, we’ll explore the Arenal area, enjoy a chocolate plantation tour, and relax in the region’s famous hot springs.
